This packable daypack is my favorite way to incorporate bountiful summer produce into the pasta while keeping it fresh, crisp, and as tasty as the day it was picked. Barely-cooked corn and tomatoes, freshly torn leaves of basil, and the meltiest globs of mozzarella make this a must-make dish for me all summer long.
I have to admit I’m a little bit jealous of this item right now. It’s so lightweight, slim, and packable. It doesn’t look like it was packed in a bunch of boxes in the back of the closet and then shipped to me.
The packable daypack is nothing new. All over the place, people have been making them for years. My favorite, by far, is the one I got last Christmas from my friend, Karen. (You may be familiar with her from her blog. It’s the one that has all the recipes for delicious things.) Karen was also the one who gave me the idea to make this, so Im going to try to make one of these for myself.
This is a pretty simple project, but if I can get it to work, Im pretty sure I can make one for myself. This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while, and I found my first source recently. Its at the top of the Amazon wishlist. I just can’t seem to get it. I’ll explain why I can’t get it in a moment.

Its made from a fabric that Ive been using as a blanket for a while, and Ive been experimenting with some different fabric on my hand for the past month or so. Ive also been experimenting with other fabrics too. Ive made the fabric out of bamboo, which Ive found to be one of the most comfortable fabrics.
As long as the daypack is a full daypack, I will use it to pack everything in. It can be folded over and folded into a pocket.
The daypack is made from a 100% bamboo fabric. This fabric does come in a packable version called the herschel packable daypack. It is a packable version of the bamboo fabric, but the herschel packable daypack is made with fabric made from 100% bamboo.
