I recently watched season nine of the brilliant television series, The Grateful Dead, and was blown away by the performances of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “Don’t Ease Me In”. While I was at the theater, I ran over to a fellow fan and just started talking about The Grateful Dead. He told me that the show was great, but that it was the opening of the show that got him to think about the Grateful Dead.
That’s right. The Grateful Dead was the opening that got my mind wandering about the show I love. The opening scene of the Grateful Dead that set my mind to thinking about the dead is the scene where they are performing ‘Truck ‘Em High’.
In the film Grateful Dead it was a scene where they are playing a song that is about the Grateful Dead. The sound of the song is the sound of a person singing and the music is the sound of drums. My buddy went on to tell me that he was the first person to show this to me. He said, “yeah, I’ve seen it in the backstreets of my neighborhood when I was a kid.
Well, I think that is one of the most underrated scenes in film. It’s one of those scenes where your brain is completely blown away by the beauty of the music and the performance, yet it’s hard to fathom that some of these people are actually out of their minds. That scene was captured by the legendary musician, Jerry Garcia. And the scene was shot in front of a live audience, which makes it even more powerful.
To me, this scene is the most powerful part of the film because while the scene itself is beautiful, it also showcases how the characters are completely insane. And it is not only that, but that they are insane because they are utterly helpless to what is around them. We see here that Jerry Garcia is the ultimate musician, and that is why it is so hard for us to understand why he is doing these things.
These characters are literally stuck in time. Like you and I, they are trapped in a timeline where a large part of their lives has been stripped away. They have no control over what is happening. Their actions are completely random. They are completely without explanation or purpose. And there is nothing you or I can do to change this.
Grateful Dead fans are the ultimate fans of randomness. We can’t control what they do, but we can try to control the randomness of it. As you’ll see when the game starts, the randomness has been heightened by the fact that Jerry Garcia is the king of random.
This is the first time in the history of the Grateful Dead, they are playing a random song, and it’s a good one. The video below shows a time period of the Grateful Dead with Jerry Garcia at the helm, and is a mix of the randomness of the Grateful Dead and the randomness of the song itself.
If we don’t have any randomness, we can still control the randomness of the music. This is a little different than what we had with the Grateful Dead, where the music is random as in, and the music and the music have a common theme. The theme is the same as the first song, “Til Death is a Song for a Time”.
The video below is a good one because it shows the band at a time of their choosing rather than the one we had before. What we had before was the randomness of the Grateful Dead. The video above is a mix of the randomness and the randomness of the song itself.
